This vital historical article sheds light on a little known corner of the Balkans in WW2: Debar, a small town in western Macedonia, at that time controlled by the Albanian Skanderbeg Division, allied with Hitler's occupation forces. This primarily history also traces in broad outlines the history of this forgotten town since ancient times and evokes the memories of very obscure Albanian commanders who nevertheless played a crucial role in the war on Macedonia's "western front." Supplemented by 3 very rare historic photos and 1 contemporary photo.

The history of the Teutonic Order has long inspired not only historians, but also poets, painters, journalists and filmmakers. In Germany, however, after 1945 the circle of those interested in the history of the Order diminished to a narrow group of professional medievalists whose names are obviously not commonly known. This decline in interest was observed both in Western and Eastern Germany. In Poland the situation was altogether different, as the authorities considered supporting the interest in the Teutonic Knights an element of a wider plan of steering social emotions, memory and awareness. At various times the history of the Order, or rather its symbolic version, was exploited to legitimize a range of very different political goals. In the article forwards the claim that the shape of the present largely determines the way of writing about the past. The article provides a compact review of the subject matter from the Enlightenment to the present times, highlighting several aspects of the “posthumous” ideological life of the Teutonic Order.

The essay of George Fischer is an attempt to present the equally fascinating and revealing attempt of a detailed analysis of the phenomenon of the Soviet "collaboration" during the Second World War. It is focused, above all, on the anti-Stalinist movement launched by the former Soviet general lieutenant Andrey A. Vlasov. The author follows the deeper reasons for the many Western observers, who seem so incomprehensible to read countless Soviet citizens, to receive and support the German invaders of their homeland as liberators. George Fischer's diagnosis diverges from all the interpretations made so far, insofar as he ascribes to his motives, at least as far as the time at the beginning of the war, an apolitical character, and essentially ascribes them to the political apathy and adaptability of the "Soviet man." His explanation becomes more and more probable as soon as they are viewed against the backdrop of German "Ostpolitik", which treated all the inhabitants of the Soviet Union as "sub-human beings", ignoring their willingness to participate actively in the struggle against the Stalinist tyranny.

We live in a world where the degree of development of each society is recognized by the way they accept diversity, whether we're talking about religion, culture or ethnicity.Unfortunately, the world has not always been so open to diversity.Even though today there are areas where we face racial discrimination and terrorist attacks made in the name of religion nothing has managed to match the insanity of a man who has marked world history in his attempt to exterminate millions of people for racial reasons in order to "clean the world of impurities" and to give birth to a new superior race, the Aryan race.
